Boundless Series (For The Little Gallery at Oregon State University)

Curated by Helen Wilhelm in 2025, this series, made for The Little Gallery at OSU, explored the concepts of territory and belonging. I think about borderlands and identities often – as an Oregonian woman raised in the last vestiges of the “western frontier,” and as an oddball artist and teacher who traverses rural and urban cultures, code-switching reflexively to fit everywhere (but also nowhere). Since my youth, I've straddled the strange intersection between academia and rural reality, and carry undying, often conflicting allegiances to both of these spheres of existence. Living and teaching in this space has made me keenly aware of cultural boundaries and points of trespass, and awakened by the wonder of moments in which commonalities and fresh insights blossom across divisions. Most of my paintings are about the beauty and nuance of that intersectionality: they’re an exploration of borders and spaces alternately standing strong, blending, fraying, or bleeding into oblivion.
